ICNC 2016 is organized by members of the Dutch Society of Pediatric Neurology (NVKN). Since its foundation in 1975, our society has continuously been active and has flourished. With a primary background in either adult neurology or pediatrics, Dutch pediatric neurologists are united in one society and form a well-trained and skilled group of colleagues. Our society aims to maintain the highest national standard for the care of all pediatric patients with neurological disorders, in close collaboration with our colleagues in neurology, pediatrics, genetics and rehabilitative medicine, among others.
In addition, the society aims to facilitate national and international pediatric neurology research. Furthermore, training in child neurology is considered of major importance. Our training program is approved by the national pediatric and neurology societies, and is in accordance with the standards of the European Pediatric Neurology Society. Dutch pediatric neurologists have regularly contributed to national and international training programs in child neurology. Several well-known Dutch colleagues have contributed considerably to major developments in the field of pediatric neurology, among whom Peter Barth, Fons Gabreels, Linda de Vries, Marjo van der Knaap, Ritske Le Coultre (the third ICNA president 1975-1979), Hans Prechtl, and Jacobus Willemse. The latter is one of the founding fathers of the ICNA.
The Dutch Society of Pediatric Neurology considers organizing and hosting ICNC 2016 in the Netherlands a tremendous stimulus for our new generation of pediatric neurologists and for all researchers and clinicians who are dealing with topics in the broad field of child neurology. We look forward to welcoming our international colleagues in Amsterdam.
